Clubs & Student Leadership

As a small school, we cherish our ability to provide students with opportunities to lead, serve, and expand their horizons. Our student leadership opportunities are hallmarks of our upper grade levels, and are opportunities that are eagerly anticipated by our students. Clubs and after-school activities change regularly, please check with the front office for new offerings and availability!

5TH GRADE LEADERSHIP CAPSTONE

As the oldest students at SMES, our 5th graders have the opportunity to assume many leadership roles and are a vital part of our school community. Some of these roles include:

  • Safety Patrol
  • Broadcasting Morning & Afternoon Announcements
  • School Ambassadors - Assisting early childhood students in the mornings
  • Leading Chapel Prayers
  • Scripture Readings in Chapel
  • Prayer Blanket Ministry
  • Holiday celebration leaders - Las Posadas, St. Nicholas Day, St. Lucia Day

ACOLYTES

We know that all children have rich spiritual lives, and fostering that spirit through weekly chapel services is so important to us. Students of all ages are active participants in chapel - serving as chapel actors, cross bearers, banner bearers, torch-bearers, prayer leaders, and readers.

ART CLUB

Students will be introduced to character drawing, acrylic painting, leaf rubbings, free draw and painting, water colors, etc. Have fun expanding your imagination and creating art with friends!

BROADCASTING

Students in 4th & 5th grades serve as student broadcasters and help our school days run smoothly! 4th grade students write, record, and produce radio broadcasts which are played on our campus during carpool times. 5th grade students run morning & afternoon announcements for the school.

CHESS AND STRATEGY GAME CLUB

Learn fundamentals of the ancient game of chess as well as strategies used in other favorite games like tic-tac-toe, "Go Fish", "Connect Four", "Pente", "Mancala, "Go", and others. Strategy games help students learn how to plan, react, adjust, and ultimately succeed - not to mention how to have fun!

FRENCH CLUB

Students in grades 1-5 will learn some basics of the French language, make some tasty French food and enjoy some fun crafts and projects.

LEGO CLUB

Students in Pre-K - 5th Grade will gather and practice their engineering skills through lots of building! Sweet friendships are always formed and awesome creations are made each week in Lego Club.

PEP SQUADS

St. Mary's Storm pep squads are here to cheer! Students will learn a cheer routine, work on tumbling skills, and perform at Storm Central throughout the year.

SAFETY PATROL

Fifth grade students serve our school by acting as safety patrol officers for carpool, and assist our youngest students by walking them to their classrooms and helping them get their bags & lunchboxes put away each morning.

SEWING GUILD

Students learn the basics of hand stitching by creating several fun projects such as a pillow, hot pad, or wall-hanging.  Once students have mastered the basics, they will tackle more difficult (but still fun!) projects.

PETITE CORDON BLEU

In preparing their own snacks (baked, cooked, etc.), students will learn how to read a recipe, learn measurement math, and enjoy delicious treats!

STEAM CLUB

Different activities each week! Engineering challenges, science experiments, problem solving, and much more!

TECHNOLOGY CLUB

Coding, 3-D Printing, and more in the technology lab each week.

TUMBLING CLUB

Students will learn the basics of tumbling and gymnastics in age-appropriate and fun ways. Showcases for parents will take place during the year.
