Early Childhood

Early Childhood

Early Childhood at St. Mary's

Learning Through Play - The St. Mary's Way

From age 2½ through Kindergarten, children at SMES thrive in nurturing, joyful environments where curiosity and confidence blossom. We believe that children learn best through joyful, purposeful play.

Hands‑on, discovery‑based experiences spark curiosity while laying strong foundations in early literacy, math, science, and creative thinking.

Foundations for Growth

At St. Mary’s, we believe children learn best when they feel seen, supported, and free to explore. In our classrooms, each little learner is valued — and encouraged to grow at their own pace: socially, emotionally, physically, academically, and creatively.

A St. Mary's Start

Community is at the heart of everything we do at St. Mary's. We see your child’s growth as a shared journey — partnering with families from day one. You’re invited to join the class, celebrate milestones, and share in the joy of your child’s progress.

Beyond Your Average Preschool

Partnering with Families

At St. Mary’s, we understand that sending your little one to school for the first time can feel both exciting and a little overwhelming. That’s why we view families as our most important partners in your child’s early learning journey.

From the very first day, we work closely with parents to ensure a smooth, confident transition. Our teachers take the time to get to know your child, celebrate their strengths, and gently guide them through new routines and experiences. We encourage open communication, offering regular updates, conferences, and opportunities to ask questions — so you feel connected, informed, and reassured every step of the way.

Families are invited to be an active part of our school community. Whether joining special classroom events, celebrating milestones, or participating in school traditions, you’ll quickly see that St. Mary’s is a place where children thrive because parents and teachers truly work together.

Here, your child is not just a student — they are a cherished member of a caring community, and you are an integral part of that journey.

Enrichment

St. Mary's Early Childhood students truly benefit from being part of an exceptional elementary school. Early childhood students are enriched with specialized instruction in:

  • Art
  • Music
  • Spanish
  • Science
  • Library
  • Physical Education
  • Chapel

These experiences allow children to explore their gifts and build relationships with teachers who will guide them throughout their years at SMES.

After-School Adventures

The fun continues beyond the classroom!

Our age‑appropriate after‑school clubs and camps — including LEGO Club, tumbling, yoga and more — provide extra time for friends, play, creativity, and confidence.

Outdoor Discovery

Our campus is a place of exploration and wonder.

Children engage with outdoor classrooms, gardens, and open learning spaces that foster movement, imagination, and a connection to nature. You’ll often spot a Kindergarten class chalking sight words on sidewalks, or a Pre‑K class on a nature walk.
